Tempo lands Aneesah Morrow in trade with Sun ahead of deadline

With the WNBA trade deadline on the horizon, the Toronto Tempo, who are currently 5.5 games out of the eighth and final playoff spot, have made a move to bolster their roster for the stretch run and future.

According to ESPN’s Alexa Philippou, the Tempo traded the rights to Maria Kliundikova and a 2028 second-round pick to the Connecticut Sun in exchange for forward Aneesah Morrow. Morrow is in her second season after being taken with the seventh overall pick by the Sun in the 2025 WNBA Draft.

In the lead-up to the deadline, the 23-year-old forward’s name surfaced in trade talks, per Annie Costabile of The Athletic. In fact, on Thursday, Madeline Kenney of the New York Post reported that potential trade talks involving the New York Liberty and Morrow “have cooled off.”

This season with the Sun, Morrow has averaged 11.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 20 games. In her final game with the Sun on Thursday night, she dropped 21 points (8-of-12 FG, 1-3 3PT), seven rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block as Connecticut lost 94-88 to the Chicago Sky.

Now Morrow is joining a Tempo team that could use more help on the boards, which is a strength of her game. Toronto ranks 13th in the WNBA in rebounding (31.1 per game) and 14th in defensive rebounds per game (23.1).

Morrow is averaging 6.3 defensive rebounds per game this season, which would rank second on the Tempo behind Isabelle Harrison (6.4).

As a rookie, Morrow led the WNBA in defensive rebounding percentage at 31.9. Therefore, the hope is that she can bring that same energy to Toronto and stay healthy (she has missed nine games this season).

Now, we’ll wait to see how the rest of the trade deadline unfolds, as teams look to bolster their rosters for the playoff push.
