Heading into the 2024 NFL regular season, fans wondered how the Philadelphia Eagles would address the WR3 position.

The Eagles entered training camp with multiple WR3 options, such as Parris Campbell, Johnny Wilson, Britain Covey, and John Ross. However, none of those pass catchers have stood out in preseason and claimed the job.

On Thursday, the Eagles made a shocking trade with a divisional rival to bolster the position group. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Philadelphia acquired Washington Commanders wide receiver Jahan Dotson and a 2025 fifth-round pick in exchange for a 2025 third-round and two seventh-round picks.

Dotson has spent the last two seasons with the Commanders after being taken in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Last year in Washington, the former Penn State wideout had 49 receptions (83 targets) for 518 yards and four touchdowns. As a rookie in 2022, he exploded onto the scene with 35 receptions (61 targets) for 523 yards and seven touchdowns.

The 24-year-old Dotson will join a loaded Eagles’ offense, which features one of the best wide receiver duos in the NFL (A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith). The 5-foot-11 pass catcher fits in perfectly as the Eagles’ No. 3 over the next two seasons, as he can play on the outside and in the slot.

The former first-round pick surprisingly fell out of favor in Washington this summer. But he has a chance to be an instant playmaker in the Eagles’ offense this season.
