Ahead of Sunday’s regular-season opener against the Washington Commanders, the Philadelphia Eagles unveiled their first injury report on Wednesday evening.
The Eagles only have two players on the Week 1 injury report, as EDGE rusher Jonathan Greenard (pectoral) and rookie tight end Eli Stowers (hamstring) were listed as limited participants. We should have a clear indication of each player’s status for Week 1 on Friday afternoon when the final injury report becomes available.
When speaking to the media earlier on Wednesday, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was asked about Greenard, who missed training camp due to a pectoral strain he sustained while training.
“We’ll see what that is by the end of the week,” said Sirianni, per John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia. The Eagles would love to have Greenard on the field for the opener, as he’s expected to play a huge role on the defensive line this season.
Needless to say, pectoral injuries can linger if there’s a setback, so the Eagles must proceed with caution when deciding whether Greenard plays on Sunday. If Sirianni holds him back for another week, the Eagles should be okay, as they still have Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt, A.J. Epenesa, and Arnold Ebikete off the edge.
It will be up to those guys to try to slow down dual-threat QB Jayden Daniels, which will be easier said than done.
Speaking of the Commanders, they have a slew of players on their initial injury report:
-
- K’Lavon Chassion, LB: Knee (limited participant)
- Jacory Croskey-Merritt, RB: Groin (limited participant)
- Odafe Oweh, LB: Calf (limited participant)
- Nick Allegretti, G: Calf (full participant)
- Jordan Magee, LB: Chest (full participant)
- Marcus Mariota, QB: Knee (full participant)
- Charles Omenihu, DE: Wrist (full participant)
- Ben Sinnott, TE: Oblique (full participant)
Croskey-Merritt, the second-year running back who had 54 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries in two games last season vs. the Eagles, reportedly suffered the groin injury in late August. However, he returned to practice last week, so Philadelphia should expect him and Rachaad White to lead Washington’s backfield.
